Personal info:
I bought it in August of 2000 from Maine Aviation in Portland. They bought it from the original owner who flew it back from Wichita new from the factory! He was no longer flying and his son was no longer interested, so it sat for a while. Maine Aviation rebuilt it firewall forward, including a new windscreen and paint (Imron). The engine was overhauled by Lycoming.

When I was considering buying it, I went out to the hangar to talk to the mechanics. I never trust sales people! They have a magnificent hangar, full of Hawkers, Lears, Citations, etc. The chief mechanic told me that it was their "baby". They kept it in the corner of the hangar and worked on it whenever they had a chance. He said the guys all preferred working on the 172 to the jets. It took them about 7-8 months to rebuild it. He said it was a labor of love and they were all sorry to see it go.

The interior is original. It is not in bad shape. There is an area on the pilot's seatback that is worn. It has been treated with fabric strengthener to prevent further wear. INo real need to have the interior done unless someone really wanted to spend the money.

Everyone who has worked on it has said it was in great shape.

The annual was done in April. 2008 by Blairstown Aviation (908) 362-0104.
